Imam Nawawi's 40 Hadith

"Actions are only by intentions, and every person will have only what they intended. So whoever's emigration was to Allah and His Messenger, then his emigration was to Allah and His Messenger. And whoever's emigration was to attain some worldly goal or to take a woman in marriage, then his emigration was for whatever he emigrated for."

"Islam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to give zakah, to fast in Ramadan, and to make pilgrimage to the House if you are able."

"Whoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand. If he is not able to, then with his tongue. If he is not able to, then with his heart – and that is the weakest of faith."

"Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day the sun rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity; to help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it is a charity; a good word is a charity; every step you take toward the mosque is a charity; and removing a harmful thing from the road is a charity."

"Righteousness is good character, and wrongdoing is that which wavers in your soul and you dislike people finding out about it."

"Indeed, Allah has obligated certain obligations, so do not neglect them; and He has set certain limits, so do not transgress them; and He has forbidden certain things, so do not violate them; and He has left certain things without clarification, as a mercy for you and not out of forgetfulness, so do not seek after them."

"There should be no harming of oneself or others."

"Be in the world as though you are a stranger or a wayfarer. And count yourself among the people of the graves."

"Do not wish for death if any of you has harm that is harming him. And if he must wish for it, then let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as living is good for me, and cause me to die when dying is good for me."

"Whoever witnesses something evil should change it with his hand; if he is unable to, then with his tongue; if he is unable to, then with his heart – and this is the weakest of faith."

"Whoever relieves a believer of one of the difficulties of this worldly life, Allah will relieve him of one of the difficulties of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for one in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the next..."

"Indeed Allah has written down the good deeds and the evil deeds, then clarified how they are: so whoever intended a good deed and did not do it, Allah writes it with Himself as a complete good deed; and if he intended it and then did it, Allah writes it with Himself as ten good deeds up to seven hundred times, up to many times over..."

"Indeed, Allah has pardoned my ummah for their mistakes, forgetfulness, and that which they are forced to do."

"Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my ummah what their hearts suggest to them, as long as they do not speak it out loud or act upon it."

"Be in the world as if you were a stranger or a traveler along a path. And count yourself as one of the people of the graves."

"None of you truly believes until his desires become subservient to what I have brought."

"Allah says: Whoever shows enmity to a friend (awliya) of Mine, I have declared war on him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more loved to Me than what I have obligated upon him, and my servant continues to draw near to Me with voluntary acts until I love him..."
